“A good leader is someone who leads with moral authority and competence. They use mission, vision, and values to model the way and to inspire a shared vision. Fisher programs make good leaders because they embed the aforementioned into all they do and work with students to develop their own attributes into successful leaders.”
Previously, Miller helped build Green Tech Charter Schools for 11 school years, more than doubling the graduation rates recognized by the State of New York for Black males. Additionally, he operates his consulting company, Urbane Education Alterations, and is working to help schools in America improve their graduation rates. Over the course of his career, he has been a part of several initiatives and non-profit organizations to bring good change to disadvantaged communities.
Miller has been recognized by the President of the United States and the CBC African and Caribbean International Leadership Conference receiving a “President's LifeTime Achievement Award,” and was also nominated and accepted to join the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), an international civil rights organization, as a council member for the Next Generation Leadership Council. In addition, he received the “Living Legend” award in 2017 and the Men of Honor “Man of the Year” Award from Israel AME Church in 2015. Finally, he was nominated by Congressional Representative (CHCI) as a Top 20 Educator in the Country and received the St. John Fisher University Distinguished Leadership Award as well as the Kappa Alpha Psi Distinguished Leadership. Miller was also recognized in 2012 by the City and the County of Albany as a Man of Valor and as one of the top 40 under 40 Top African American Leaders in Rochester (2011).
Additionally, Miller has made appearances on national television discussing his work and how to improve education and the mindsets of our children to improve results. He is one of the only researchers nationally who have viewed cyberbullying from the Black female’s perspective. Miller is also the author of Cyberbullying: Breaking the Cycle of Conflict and We Need to Do Better: Changing the Mindset of Children through Family, Community, and Education. Both books aim at taking an action-based approach to breaking negative cycles within the urban community, in order to improve the quality of life for children.
