Orientation FAQs

Orientation is an exciting time for first-year and transfer students, and you may have questions leading up to your first weekend on campus.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I get details about arrival and the Orientation schedule?

Our Orientation page is updated with schedule details. For residential students (first-year or transfer), students receive move-in details from the Office of Residential Life. Please check your @sjf.edu email regularly.

I don’t have a meal plan. Can I attend meals during Orientation?

Yes! Please plan to attend meals with your Orientation Group during Orientation, even if you have not yet enrolled in a meal plan.

Is Orientation required?

Yes. We convey information that is important for a successful transition and tenure at the University during Orientation, and new students are expected to attend. In addition, the social programming is an important foundation for the social transition.

I’m a student-athlete. What do I do?

We’ve worked with athletics staff for pre-season athletes to manage practice and pre-season schedules. Please communicate with your Orientation Leader about your practice schedule, pre-season, and wellness throughout the weekend.

I’m a transfer student. What do I do?

Residential transfer students should plan to move-in on Sunday, September 1 during their designated timeslot. Following move-in, students will have lunch with their Orientation Groups and attend social transition programming throughout the rest of the day and evening.

Commuting transfer students should plan to arrive by 10 a.m. on Monday, September 2 to join the residential transfer students to pick up their iPad and then attend campus information sessions. Commuting transfer students are welcome to join Sunday evening social transition programming. We recommend contacting campuslife@sjf.edu to arrange arrival and meeting up.

How long can families/guests stay?

Families and guests are welcome to help new residential students move in to their residence halls, get settled, and grab lunch in the Ward Haffey Dining Hall. For first-year students, the Family and Guest Dessert Drop-In is a great time to get ice cream with your student and then depart campus.

We look forward to welcoming you to Family Weekend October 18-20, 2024! Information about Family Weekend registration will be available in September.

Where can I go to get last minute supplies?

Eastview Mall is just a ten-minute drive from campus, and is co-located with Target, BJs, Walmart, Kohls, and more. There is a Wegmans located in Country Club Plaza on 31F, within a five-minute drive from campus as well as in Pittsford Plaza on Monroe Ave.
